Editorial Policy
Purpose of EnviroCitizen
EnviroCitizen.org publishes practical, evidence-informed guidance on sustainable living, including waste reduction, responsible travel, urban gardening, and home energy practices.
Our goal is to help readers make realistic, ethical, environmentally responsible choices in daily life.
Editorial independence
Our content is created and selected by our editorial team.
We do not allow advertisers, partners, sponsors, or outside organizations to control or approve what we publish.
If a piece of content is sponsored or supported by a partner, it will be clearly disclosed.
Accuracy and sourcing
We aim to provide information that is accurate, verifiable, and current at the time of publication.
When we present facts (for example: environmental impact claims, energy efficiency practices, recycling guidelines), we rely on:
- publicly available research and reports from credible sources,
- guidance from relevant regulatory bodies and environmental agencies,
- interviews or statements from subject-matter practitioners.
We do not intentionally publish misleading, exaggerated, or alarmist claims.
When there are uncertainties, debate, or limitations in available data, we say so.
Updates and corrections
Sustainability guidance can change over time (for example, local recycling rules, building regulations, energy incentives, product safety standards).
When we discover that published content is outdated, incomplete, or inaccurate, we update it.
When we make a material correction, we will revise the article and may note that it has been updated.
Readers can report an error or request clarification at [email protected].
We review all credible correction requests.
Voice and responsibility
Our content is meant to be practical and honest.
We do not promise “perfect zero-waste living,” shame readers for not being “100% sustainable,” or present sustainability as a moral competition.
We focus on progress, not perfection — what can realistically be done at home, in cities, and in daily choices.
We also acknowledge constraints: cost, space, time, safety, housing rules, and local laws.
Expertise and authorship
Articles are written by named contributors.
Each article includes the author’s name and may include a short bio describing relevant experience or background.
When a topic requires specific technical or regulatory knowledge (for example: rooftop gardening on shared property, solar maintenance, waste handling rules), we aim to consult sources with relevant practical experience and to present that information with appropriate caution.
We do not publish anonymous “advice” that cannot be traced to a responsible editor.
Environmental claims and product mentions
Sometimes we reference tools, materials, or products (for example: compost bins, reusable alternatives, low-waste travel items, solar maintenance tools).
Our policy:
- We only recommend items if they are directly relevant to a sustainable practice discussed in the article.
- We do not claim that a product is “eco-friendly,” “green,” “carbon neutral,” or “zero impact” unless that claim is supported by specific, verifiable information.
- We will not promote products that fundamentally conflict with the principles of waste reduction, personal safety, or legal compliance.
If we ever receive compensation (affiliate revenue, sponsorship, samples, etc.) in connection with a recommendation, we will clearly disclose that relationship in or near that content.
Ethical guidelines
We do not publish or encourage:
- illegal dumping or disposal practices,
- unsafe handling of waste or materials,
- actions that create risk to health, property, or local ecosystems,
- harassment or shaming of individuals or communities.
We aim to highlight sustainability solutions that are respectful to people, land, and local cultures — including in the context of travel.
Reader contributions and community input
We may feature tips, experiences, or questions from readers (for example, “how we reduced our plastic use on work trips,” “how we grow food on a balcony,” etc.).
By sending us such material, you confirm that it is your own experience and can be shared publicly.
We may edit reader submissions for clarity, tone, length, and safety guidance before publication or may choose not to publish them.
Transparency about limitations
We provide general guidance, ideas, and education.
We are not your lawyer, contractor, engineer, landlord, waste-management authority, or medical advisor.
Local rules, building safety codes, rental agreements, homeowners’ association rules, energy regulations, and recycling standards differ by city and country.
Before you act on anything with legal, financial, or safety impact (installing solar equipment, altering shared property, disposing of chemicals, etc.), you are responsible for checking applicable local requirements or consulting qualified professionals.
